Toronto Chapter updates: OMG riding.

Hiya folks!

Wow! I can't believe that rides are really back. This seems unreal to me, and I'm not gonna look a gift horse in the mouth. Let's get out there, ride safely, and have fun!

📢 Randonneurs Ontario slack channel!

The Board of Directors has been playing around with a Slack channel for a while now, and we'd like to open it up to the Randolist. It's just another method for folks to chat about randonneuring and riding in Ontario.

What's slack?

Well, according to Slack, it's "a messaging app for business that connects people to the information they need. By bringing people together to work as one unified team, Slack transforms the way organizations communicate." You can install it on your phone or computer.

For us, it's a nice alternative to our mailing list and facebook group. Just remember that you're required to follow our code of conduct on the Slack channel, too.

🚲 Upcoming Toronto rides

You can request your own start time on the scheduled date and still receive ACP credit for each ride. Registration for Toronto rides close the Wednesday before the ride.

Sat July 11 05:00 – Concord Collingwood 400
Sat July 11 08:00 – Hills of Hockley 200
Sat July 17 05:00 – Mnjikaning 400
Sat July 17 05:00 – Udora-Uxbridge-Utica 200

Submit your brevet card and recorded activity (strava, ridewgps, garmin, tcx, etc.) to vp@randonneurs.to when you're done.

😷 Toronto Brevet rules

The usual:

Be a member of Randonneurs Ontario and have Ontario Cycling Association insurance.
Wear a helmet
Wear a reflective vest 1 hour before sunset, and 1 hour after sunrise.
Have front and rear lights solidly affixed to your bicycle.

The new:

Follow the Ontario, OCA, and regional guidelines for COVID-19.
Be more self-supporting than usual to minimize the need to visit stores for food or water. Carry a mask! You will need this to enter stores, and be respectful of their policies.
Ride only with others in your social circle. There's no "safe distance" when it comes to cycling.
Complete the brevet cards yourself (bring a pen!), and send me a .gpx recording of the ride when you've completed it!
